Q. What is "RemitMoney"?

Axis Bank is India's third largest private sector bank and has over 2,000 branches and over 11,000 ATMs in India. The Bank also has overseas offices in UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Colombo, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

"RemitMoney" is an online money transfer facility offered by Axis Bank which enables NRIs from United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Eurozone to send money to India.

Q. Is "RemitMoney" safe?

When you transfer through "RemitMoney", the money is transferred through the Automated Clearing Mechanism/Electronic Clearing System to the designated account held and operated by Axis Bank in your country. Thus, the money always moves within the banking system. All transactions and information exchanges happen on fully secure encrypted lines, and your data is stored on servers that are protected by advanced firewalls which have undergone extensive security tests.

Q. Do I or the beneficiary need to have an account in Axis Bank?

No, neither you nor your beneficiary needs to have an account with Axis Bank. "RemitMoney" helps you directly send money to over 148 Banks in India through National Electronic Fund Transfer or Immediate Payment Service.

Q. Who can use "RemitMoney"?

"RemitMoney" can be used by an NRI wanting to send money from his/her bank account in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Singapore and Eurozone to a beneficiary in India. The remitter can also have the money sent to his/her own NRE account in India.

Q. What are the various payment modes?

Internet Banking Transfer: Internet Banking Transfer is the easiest way to send money electronically. You can simply transfer the funds by logging into your local Internet banking service.

PAD/ACH Transfer: ACH Transfer is a convenient way to send money from USA & Canada. It uses the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network in USA & PAD in Canada to debit to your account, and transfer the funds to Axis Bank's specially designated account in US & Canada. The funds are then converted and credited to the beneficiary in India.

SMART - Wire transfer: A Wire Transfer to "RemitMoney" enables you to transfer money from your existing overseas bank account to India in 48 hours. To initiate a wire transfer, you will be required to book a transaction on RemitMoney, post booking the transaction, you can send funds in our bank account through Internet Banking (If amount is within your internet banking permissible limits) or initiate the transfer to our account by visiting your Bank's Branch. There is no limit on transaction for using this mode.

Q. How do I register for "RemitMoney"?

You can register for "RemitMoney" by submitting your details on our website. The required details are:

  • Personal details like Name, date of birth, gender, SSN number
  • Login details like your email ID and password
  • Address and contact details

Once registration is done, you can immediately start using the services of "RemitMoney". Your information is securely stored in our database so that subsequent payments can be completed quickly.

Q. How much time does it take to complete Registration?

It takes 5 Mins or less.

Q. In which currencies can I send Money?

Currently you can transfer money in US Dollars (USD), GBP Pound Sterling (GBP), Euros (EUR) and Singapore Dollars (SGD), Australian Dollars (AUD), Swiss Francs (CHF) & Hong Kong Dollars (HKD).

Q. What are the various payment modes?

The funds are then converted and credited to the beneficiary in India.
  • SMART - Wire transfer: A Wire Transfer to "RemitMoney" usually enables you to transfer money from your existing overseas bank account to India in 48 hours. To initiate a wire transfer, you will be required to enter details on our website, download the form and submit the same at your Bank"s Branch. There is no limit on transaction for using this mode.

However, if you are doing a PAD\ACH transfer, it can take up to 10 days to process your transfer as there is an additional verification process required. Therefore, please add your bank account so that we can verify it in advance. Then you can make transfers as and when you like.

Q. What is the RemitMoney Transaction Number or RXMTN?

Every transaction through "RemitMoney" is identified by a unique number - RemitMoney Tran ID or RXMTN. It is displayed on your screen at the time of booking your remittance. You can know the exact status of your transfer by simply clicking on your RMT ID on our Online Status Tracker.

Q. How do I check the RXMTN of previous transactions?

You will find RXMTN for all your previous transactions under the "Transactions History" section on our Website if you are logged in. Also, RXMTN is sent via mail to your registered email ID after the transaction is processed.

Q. What is the use of RXMTN?

RXMTN is required for tracking your funds in Online Status Tracker.

Also, our Support Centre will need to know the RXMTN for resolving any queries raised by you.

Q. Can I send money to an NRE\NRO account through "RemitMoney"?

Yes. You can send money to any NRE\NRO account in India. These funds will be directly credited into this account.

Q. Can I use "RemitMoney" facility to make business payments?

No, "RemitMoney" can be used for transfers of personal nature. You cannot transfer funds from or to non-individual/business accounts.

Q. How will I know when my recipient has received the money?

We send a series of email/SMS notifications informing you of the status of your transaction. The first email/SMS is sent shortly after you submit a "RemitMoney" transaction. The second email/SMS is sent when your payment has been cleared and is pushed into the local clearing settlement in India.

Upon completion of the transaction, you will receive another email/SMS informing you that your recipient has received the funds.

Note: Place the email address in your "safe sender's list" of your email account to ensure that these messages are not mistakenly directed to your junk or spam mail box. If you're not sure on how to configure your email attributes, consult your Internet Service Provider (ISP), email service or system administrator.

Q. How do I schedule a money transfer?

You can schedule money transfers from your "RemitMoney" account for future dates or even set up a scheduled remittance to your beneficiaries at no additional charge.

Here's how it works:

  • Option 1: Select the Schedule Reminder link from your my account page for an existing recipient or when you start your money transfer. Specify the frequency and date of your money transfer transactions. You will be sent a reminder on your registered e-mail id 3 days in advance.
  • Option 2: You also have the option of automating the entire remittance transaction at a scheduled date. Just click on the schedule a remittance link on the side of your my account page and set up a scheduled remittance.Review the schedule before you authorize the money transfer. You can change the details of this schedule only before the day of the money transfer. The payment will not be charged to your account until the day of the transfer.
ACH Transfers (available for registered users from USA)
Q. What is ACH Transfer?

ACH Transfer is a convenient way to send money from USA. It uses the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network in USA to debit to your account, and transfer the funds to Axis Bank's specially designated account in US. The funds are then converted and credited to the beneficiary in India.

Q. How do I use ACH Transfer?

Login to your "RemitMoney" account and follow the below mentioned steps -

  • Click on 'Add New Bank account'.
  • It will direct you to page where you will need to fill in the details of your local US bank account. The details required to be submitted are:
    • Account holder's name
    • Bank name
    • Bank's ABA routing number
    • Account type
  • Submit these details by clicking on 'Confirm'
  • Initiate a money transfer by mentioning the amount and purpose of transfer.
Q. What is ACH account validation?

There is a one-time account validation that is done on the local bank account that you register on "RemitMoney". We will initiate 2 sub-dollar (less than a dollar) transactions to the local bank account. A deposit and a withdrawal will be made to your account. The value of the credit is equal to value of withdrawal hence the balance in your account remains unaffected. You need to check your account and confirm the deposit values on "RemitMoney". Once the confirmation is successful, your transaction will be processed. Please note that you can initiate a transfer only after the ACH account validation is successful

Q. How much time does account validation take?

It can take upto 3 business days for sub-dollar transactions to show in account.

Q. Why is ACH account validation done?

A one-time validation is carried out for the account that you register for ACH Transfer. This is done to prevent any misuse of your account.

Q. Do I need to have a specific type of account to use ACH Transfer?

You can use your consumer checking or savings account in US. Your bank should be affiliated with ACH network.

Q. What are the charges for using ACH Transfer?

There are no charges for using ACH transfer service.

Q. What is the time taken for completing the ACH transfer transaction?

The time taken for processing an ACH Transfer is five working days.

Please note that Saturday and Sunday are non-working days. In addition, banking holidays in remitting country (USA) and India are excluded from the calculation of working days.

Q. Can I make future dated payments using ACH Transfer facility?

Yes, you can schedule a future dated transaction (upto a year) from your verified ACH account using ACH Transfer facility. You can also set up Standing Instructions (SIs) for recurring payments like EMI payments, bill payments or for special occasions like Mom's birthday!

Online Transfer (available for registered users from Australia, United Kingdom, Eurozone and Singapore)
Q. What is Online Transfer?

Online Transfer is a hassle-free method of transferring money from Australia, United Kingdom, Eurozone and Singapore to India using your local bank's internet banking facility.

Q. How do I use Online Transfer?

Just follow below steps to send money to your loved ones through Online Transfers-

  • Log in to "RemitMoney"
  • Add beneficiary details or select an existing beneficiary.
  • Click on 'Online Transfer'
  • Add your payment details like amount, purpose of remittance, and click submit.
  • After submitting the request, you will receive a unique reference number and account details to which you need to send money.
  • Now, log in to your local bank's internet banking where you have an account.
  • Initiate a third party fund transfer for the same amount as you have initiated on "RemitMoney" to the account given in payment (account) details. Remitters from Singapore banking with DBS can do a bill payment to Axis Bank (added as a biller in the internet banking)
  • Please input the reference number in the free text field/description field.
  • We will credit the beneficiary as per your instructions on "RemitMoney" once the money is received in Axis Bank's account in your country.
Q. Are there any pre-requisites for using Online transfer?

Your local bank's internet banking should have below options for you to be able to use Online Transfer.

  • Online third-party funds transfers/payments facility and,
  • A "Remarks" or "Message to Recipient" field while making the online third-party transfer, to enter the reference number generated on "RemitMoney".
Q. Is there fixed-rate facility available for Online Transfers?

Yes, you can avail of the fixed rate facility by selecting 'Fixed Rate' option on Step 1 while initiating an Online Transfer.

Please note that the exchange rate committed for a fixed rate Online Transfer is only applicable if the funds for the transfer are received by Axis Bank within the validity period advised during the transaction initiation. If the funds for a fixed rate transfer are received after the advised number of days valid for the fixed exchange rate, then the exchange rate prevailing on the date of processing of the transaction will be applied.

Q. Can I transfer money from my friend's or relative's overseas account?

No, the overseas account should belong to the registered user of "RemitMoney". Only those transactions are processed where the name reflecting in the "RemitMoney" account matches with the Account Holder's name in the Bank Account from where the money transfer is made.

Q. What are SEPA Transfers?

Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) was developed by the European Central Bank and European Commission as a single payment market in the European Union that allows Euro payments to be made within Europe as easily and efficiently as within current national borders. For transfers made through SEPA, our partner bank's charges may apply.

Q. How much time will it take for my beneficiary to receive money?

Your beneficiary will receive money in 2-3 working days from the time you initiate a fund transfer from your bank. We will send money to your beneficiary within 1 day of receiving money in our account

Q. Can I use "RemitMoney" facility to make business payments?

No, "RemitMoney" can be used for transfers of personal nature. You cannot transfer funds from or to non-individual/business accounts.

Receiving Money
Q. What are the options available for beneficiary to receive money in India?

The options available to your beneficiary to receive money are

  • Axis Bank account credit - You can send money to an account with Axis Bank.
  • Electronic transfer to other banks in India - You can send money to accounts with over 100 banks via NEFT.
Q. How do I know that money has reached my beneficiary?

The status of your remittance request will get updated on the 'Status Tracker'.

Q. Can I transfer funds to a beneficiary's credit card?

No. Transfer can happen only to an account.

Q. What could be the reasons for delay in my fund transfer?

Your transaction could be delayed because of the following reasons:-

  • Intervening Holidays in the Beneficiary"s Country.
  • You did not send the money into our designated account for the purpose of transfer.
  • You did not submit adequate KYC documents or reply to our compliance related mails or answer our Compliance related calls for the purpose of verification.
  • We are unable to trace your funds. In such a case you would have to re-book a transfer with the same amount at the prevailing rate.
Q. What does 'delivery date' mean?

"Delivery Date" is the tentative date of credit to your Beneficiary"s account. We cannot always guarantee the credit on a particular date because of the differences in time zones, holiday lists and general processing schedules of different countries. The delivery date indicated by us for the transaction should be considered only as an estimate rather than the actual date for credit of funds. We advise you to check the "RemitMoney" Status Tracker to confirm that your funds have been received by the beneficiary. Please Note: "RemitMoney" can only process your transaction request once the money is received in our account in the sending country.

Exchange rate & Applicable Tax
Q. What is the exchange rate applied to my money transfer request?

For your ACH Transfers, the exchange rate applicable to transfer will be the rate at which the transfer was booked. All such transfers will be executed at fixed rate.

  • For money transfer requests through Online Transfer or Smart Wire, you have the option of choosing either 'Fixed Rate' or 'Indicative Rate' at the time of initiating the request. Fixed Rate: The exchange rate at which the transfer is booked will be applicable if the funds are received within the validity period. Else, the exchange rate prevailing on the date of processing the transfer will be applicable.
  • Indicative Rate: The exchange rate displayed at the time of booking the transfer is only indicative in nature. The exchange rate prevailing on the date of processing will be applicable to the transfer
Q. What is fixed exchange rate?

For your ACH Transfers, the exchange rate at which the transfer was booked will be the rate at which the transfer will be executed.

For your money transfer requests through Online Transfer or Smart Wire, if you choose 'Fixed Rate' at the time of initiating the request, then the exchange rate shown at the time of booking the transfer will be applicable if the funds are received by Axis Bank within the advised validity period.

Q. What is indicative exchange rate?

The rate which is displayed in the exchange rate table is an indicative rate which can help you in arriving at an approximate rupee value of your transfer.

Q. What is 'Rate Alert' feature? How does it work?

'Rate Alert' feature helps to transfer money on your preferred exchange rate; all you need to do is login to your "RemitMoney" account and visit the 'Rate Alert' option and mention your preferred exchange rate. At any particular day if "RemitMoney" exchange rate is equal to or more than your preferred exchange rate, "RemitMoney" will send you a reminder through email.

The exchange rate calculator is used for informational purposes only. The rates in this calculator do not represent the actual rate that will be applied to your transaction. This calculator provides an approximation. To view exchange rate calculator click here.

Q. What are the taxes levied on transfers?

Tax is calculated as below:

  • Upto 1,00,000 - 0.18% of the gross amount of currency exchanged for an amount up to 100,000 subject to the minimum amount of 45.
  • 1,00,001 To 10,00,000 - 180 plus 0.09% of the gross amount of currency exchanged for an amount of rupees exceeding 100,000 and up to 10,00,000.
  • Above 10,00,000 - 990 plus 0.018% of the gross amount of currency exchanged for an amount of rupees exceeding 10,00,000 subject to maximum amount of 10,800.

Q. How do I unlock my account?

We have created an account unlock option on the login page. This will help you to unlock your account instantly. You can unlock your account only once in 24 hours. Q. What if I am having problems signing in to my "RemitMoney" account?

Q. How do I change my "RemitMoney" account settings?

After logging into your "RemitMoney" account, click on the Account Settings link in the My Profile section of the menu on the left hand side of the page. Make the required changes and save them.

Q. How do I change my personal information in my "RemitMoney" account?

After logging into your "RemitMoney" account, click on the Personal Information link in the My Profile section of the menu on the left hand side of the page. Make the required changes and save them.

Q. How do I add a receiver?

After logging into your "RemitMoney" account, click on the My Receivers tab on the left hand side of the page. Enter the required details of the new receiver here and save them.

Q. How do I close my "RemitMoney" account?

Q. How do I change my "RemitMoney" password?

After logging into your "RemitMoney" account, click on the Change Password link in the My Profile section of the menu, on the left hand side of the page. Make the required changes and save it.

Q. What if I forget my "RemitMoney" password?

You need to be logged out. You need to click on the Forgot Password link in the login box on the home page. Enter the requested details and you will receive an email with a new password. Use this password to log in again. When you access your account, change the password according to your preference.

Q. I want to block my account as I believe that my password has been leaked?

We advise you to frequently change your password and maintain total secrecy about your login details to prevent fraudulent misuse of your "RemitMoney" account. In case you need to block your account, just send us an email at from the email ID you had earlier registered with us.

Track, Amend & Cancel Payments
Q. How do I track the status of my money transfer?

The status of your remittance transaction is displayed on the Status Tracker page on the "RemitMoney" website. Additionally, "RemitMoney" sends email notifications to keep you aware of important changes in the status of your transaction.

The transaction information on our website is available only to the sender and the recipient of the remittance. The sender can view the status of the transaction either by signing in to his or her "RemitMoney" account and entering the "RemitMoney" Transaction Number (RXMTN) in the Status Tracker search box, or by checking the Status Tracker page on the site.

Q. How many months of transaction history is available through the Web site?

The sender can see status by signing in to "RemitMoney" account and entering the "RemitMoney" Transaction Number (RXMTN) in the Status Tracker Search Box, or by looking on the Status Tracker page of the site.

Q. Can I make changes to my transaction?

You cannot make changes to a transaction once it has been booked, but you can cancel the transaction and make a fresh booking.

Q. Can I cancel my transaction and get a refund?

No refund is possible once the amount is converted to INR.
